Afrikaners are colonists who arrived to SA from various european countries and have at their roots Dutch settlers who intermarried with French Huguenots and Germans. Also known as boers, which is actually the word for farmer. Afrikaners constituted over half of the white population of South Africa and about 8 percent of the country's total population. A small minority of Afrikaners continue to fight for an independent Afrikaner homeland.
