In John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost, Abdiel ("servant of God") is an angel who followed Satan and his rebel angels away to Satan's headquarters in the North just before their battle against God. Before the fighting started, Abdiel realized that Satan's cause was the wrong one, stood up before all of the rebel angels and told Satan that he is wrong to his face, and then went to fight with the armies of God.
