McGruder is an American born 'African American' who lives in Los Angeles, California. He attended the University of Maryland where The Boondocks was first published in the student newspaper, The Diamondback.
Aaron McGruder has published three collections of The Boondocks strips, they are The Boondocks: Because I Know You Don't Read the Newspaper, Fresh for '01 . . . You Suckas! A Boondocks Collection and most recently A Right to Be Hostile: A Boondocks Treasury.
