Yamaha's entry into the sampler market after a long absence from said market. The A3000 is a very expandable 16 bit sampler. It has 64 note polyphony, 3 chainable, DSP based, digital effects units, built in SCSI, and 5 realtime control knobs on the front of the unit.
Each sample can have 4 band EQ. The effects processors have 54 unique effects.

Also the name for an early Risc OS machine. The Archimedes 3000 (aka Archie) was groundbreaking at the time (1987) the GUI was much simpler to use than Windows and actually had a (wait for it) Iconbar! The computer shiped with the Risc OS operating system on ROM to ensure stability, a 3.5 inch floppy disc drive (by default formatted to 800k) and a 3 button mouse. It's logo was an owl and given that Disney's Merlin had an educated owl named Archimedes I would suspect that there was a link. It was succeded by the imaginatively named A4000 and A5000.
