Mobile gynecological unit designed to fit inside a standard freight container. Designed by Dutch artist Atelier van Lieshout, it can be loaded on a ship, such as Women on Waves' Aurora (read all about this here), or onto a truck for transport into areas where abortion and family planning are legal, but inaccessible for reasons such as war or scary protesters. The A-portable aboard the Aurora contains several beds and a full, state-of-the-art gynecological examination/operating facility.

Personally, I think this is one of the coolest things I've heard of in a really long time. I wonder how much it'd cost to outfit a truck with one of these and a whup-ass medical staff, and I'm seriously tempted to find out. 80 percent of counties in the U.S. don't have an abortion provider, and abstinence education continues to be touted as a viable alternative to more realistic approaches to sexuality (rant to be continued at a more suitable nodesite).
