There’s a better way to divide the world
if divide it we must
than by race or by gender
about which we’re often and easily wrong
better than by geographical lines
which are always in flux
and better by far than religion or faith
as it’s only the dead who know the truth there
if apartheid’s preferred
and it seems that it is
if we must have division
and it seems that we must
let it be simply between these two types
those who giggle at words like “asphalt”
words like “penal”
and people like you
and me
who do not.
