Score of two momentous victories by
Georgia Tech over
University
of Virginia in
college football.
In 1990, UVa won its first seven games and raced out to a #1 ranking
in both polls. Undefeated but unheralded Georgia Tech came into
Scott Stadium in
Charlottesville and beat the Hoos 41-38 on a last-second field goal
by Scott Sisson, setting off celebrations
back in Atlanta that culminated in GT students breaking into
Bobby Dodd Stadium, closed for the road game that weekend, and
tearing down a goalpost. GT went on to be co-national champions that
year, the last before Florida State University joined the ACC and forever ended other ACC schools' chances at
the MNC. UVa's season spiraled downhill
from there, ending the season 8-4.
In 1998, #25 GT hosted undefeated #7 UVa, and again pulled off the upset,
this time coming from three touchdowns behind and surviving a 54-yard
FG miss by UVa kicker Todd Braverman.
