Bursting on the rap scene in 1989 with their debut effort, The Cactus Album, 3rd Bass was the only white rap group aside from the Beastie Boys to turn heads and make the world listen. Prime Minister Pete Nice and MC Serch provided the lyrics, while the beats were laid down by DJ Daddy Rich. Calling out other acts at the time, such as MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice, they lyrically assaulted wack MCs and still managed to keep it real, with such special guests as Zevlove X from KMD and producer Prince Paul.

In 1991, they released their second full-length album, entitled Derelicts of Dialect, which would prove to be their last before they broke up. Years later they would reform for a reunion show at Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
