On the same day that Wisconsin had its primary contest, Maryland also voted.

Although Maryland and Wisconsin are similar in population and number of delegates, the evenings attentions were on Wisconsin, since the results of Maryland were seen as a foregone conclusion. Maryland is full of the affluent, educated voters that tend to vote for Mitt Romney, so the only interest in the contest was whether Rick Santorum could win a congressional district or two in the more rural regions of Maryland.

Mitt Romney ended up winning every delegate in Maryland. If there is any consolation for Santorum's increasingly unlikely primary campaign, it is that he held Romney to only a 49% plurality, but at this stage in the game, it is hardly something to brag about.

The final vote percentages were:
Mitt Romney 49.2%
Rick Santorum 28.9%
Newt Gingrich 10.9%
Ron Paul 9.5%
