When a batsman has a score of 111 in cricket, it's said that he is on a Nelson and is considered to be quite unlucky.

This is said to be because Admiral Horatio Nelson managed to lose one arm, one eye and one ball in battle. Hence 111 equals a Nelson

Eleventy-One

Eleventy-One, 111 or One hundred and eleven as it is more commonly (and more boringly) known is a number created by J. R. R. Tolkien in The Lord of the Rings. 111 is also known as one-eleven, as in the European Unions reciprocial health care agreement, the E111. This has nothing at all to do with the reciprocal of 111, which is ¹/₁₁₁, or

Of course, to really confuse people, write it as 111^-1, since most people don't know that x^-1 means the reciprocal of x.

Interesting Maths (a contradiction in terms)

111/111 11/11 1/1 is 1 1 1 is eleventy one
Eleventy One has eleven letters.
111² is 12321.
111 - 42 is a sex act.
111 is not prime: 37 x 3 = 111
The devils number has 111 as a factor
111 x 910 gives 101010 : the binary for 42
111 is approximately equal to 42 (an error of only 62.1% - good for a physics experiment)
111 has a nice binary representation: 1101111. As does 42 (101010). If 42 is uncertain (yes, no, yes, no, yes, no) then 111 is almost certain (well... ⁶/₇ of the time!)
