29A (666 in hexadecimal) is also the name of a "research virus programming group", whose members are mostly Spanish.

Recently, the witch-hunt to bring the authors of the Code Red Virus to "justice" pointed a spindly finger towards former 29A member "Wintermute", who wrote a clever DOS (Denial of Service) virus called "RedCode", which has absolutely nothing to do with the Code Red worm. The implication formed because the hexadecimal number 29A features prominently in the Code Red source. The general consensus among security consultants was that the Code Red worm did not fit 29A's style or method of attack.

Mental Driller (Another member of 29A) sent out an email denying the group's involvement, explaining that 29A's viruses are designed to demonstrate system vulnerabilities in a mostly non-destructive manner.
