The country code top level domain (ccTLD) .YU was assigned to the country of the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The TLD is no longer used and is retired because the successor countries of Serbia and Montenegro have received their own ccTLD (.RS and .ME, respectively). The registration period for .YU domains ended in 2010. It has the distinction of being the largest TLD to ever be deactivated and deleted.

The former configured second-level domains included:

  • .co.YU - Commercial (required a Yugoslavia local address for billing).
  • .ac.YU - Educational, higher education.
  • .edu.YU - Non-University education institutions (high schools, etc.).
  • .gov.YU - - Independent organisations.
