Well, have no fear.
Note: When I say "disc" or "frisbee" I mean the same thing. A 175-gram Discraft is what you want. Also, most of this will make no sense unless you are familiar with Ultimate Frisbee.

Underdog was a game created at Jordan High School (in Durham, NC) a few years back, (very similar to ultimate frisbee), out of the need for a disc related game that can be played with 6 players or less (see, nobody was ever coming out to practice). I don't know exactly who invented it, and if I forget any of the rules, just tell me.

According to tradition, one should play Underdog barefoot. This is primarily because of the Yin-Monkey-Hammer (described below), and the possibility of being cleated in the head as a result of that. However, the last time I played Underdog, the barefoot part caused me and a few others to get nasty blisters, on the week before Nationals (big deal). So my updated doctrine is as follows:

1. If the field is wet,

…You will not reach enlightenment by reading things (idea)http://everything2.com/user/rimv/writeups/You+will+not+reach+enlightenment+by+reading+thingsrimvhttp://everything2.com/user/rimv2002-05-30T04:00:29Z2002-05-30T04:00:29ZSad but true, folks.

I'm trying to speak from personal experience here: It's easy to pretend you know lots about Buddhism. All you have to do is ask lots of questions, questions with very hard answers. Catch phrases abound - "empty yourself" - "free your mind from desire" - "compassion, not morals." The sad part is, this doesn't help. It's only imitation, only pretending to be the next Lao-Tse, the next Chang-tzu, or whoever.

Please don't think I'm discouraging anyone. I love Zen, Taoism, the whole works. And if you're pursuing, something like that, enlightenment or what-have you, go for it. There are some amazing things out there to learn (or perhaps, un-learn). Meditation is a wonderful thing to be doing, and though I've given it up (bad thing), I implore everyone to try it.

The point I want to make here is, enlightenment ain't easy. It's not something that you will attain going about Buddhism in a casual fasion (weekly meditation sessions are not going to

…Avara (thing)http://everything2.com/user/rimv/writeups/Avararimvhttp://everything2.com/user/rimv2000-04-08T01:22:23Z2000-04-08T01:22:23Z
A great multiplayer computer game only for the Mac (made by Ambrosia).
