The expedition describes an area with wild grapes in profusion, vast stretches of towering timber, an abundance of game of all kinds, rivers teeming with giant salmon, meadows rich with a harvest of wild wheat, and a climate so kind that winter frosts were hardly known; even the dew seemed to them sweeter than anything they'd ever tasted before. And Leif the Lucky named the country Vinland: 'Wineland', the land of grapes.

This is the main point of conjecture about the location of 'Vinland'. Since the settlers seemed to place so much importance on the quantaties of grapes that surrounded them, it seems unlikely that they could have been talking about Newfoundland. Before the discovery of the settlement in Newfoundland at L'Anse Aux Meadows, Vinland had been confidently located by enthusiasts in areas as far apart as Hudson Bay and
…Mike Ness (person)http://everything2.com/user/mr+furious/writeups/Mike+Nessmr furioushttp://everything2.com/user/mr+furious2000-11-09T07:27:41Z2000-11-09T07:27:41ZMike Ness is the frontman for the seminal punk band Social Distortion. The band was not really put on the back burner by Ness so much as it was disbanded after the tragic and sudden death of Guitarist Dennis Danell (1961-2000).

A reformed Social Distortion is planning a tour for early 2001 (Several January dates are listed at socialdistortion.com).

Mike Ness's Solo work is very different from his work with Social D. Most noticeably it is not punk rock, but a bluesey, rockabilly style of oldschool rock and roll.

His first solo album "Cheating at Solitaire" features songs written by Ness and some covers of artists he seems to genuinely appreciate. Brian Setzer does some guitar work on the album and Bruce Springsteen lends a hand singing.

"Under the Influences", Ness's second album is a set of covers of artists Ness credits with providing the fromative base for his distinct musical style.

It involves all the same rules as "quarters", but along with the center glass, each person has their own cup with a drink poured in it.

If you bounce the quarter into another person's cup, that person has to drink from it, depositing the quarter on a paper towel (the "tampon"). Bouncing a quarter in any cup means you continue bouncing...whee!

Bounce a quarter in your own cup, and you must take that drink plus one more for stupidity.

Bounce the quarter into the unfilled center cup, and everyone must chug the drink in their own cup. The last one to finish must drink again.

Bouncing the quarter into any three cups in a row allows you to make up a rule, such as "no swearing", "must drink with your eyes closed", "no using names", "no pointing", etc.

Breaking a rule means you drink again.
