During a posh dinner party or otherwise, you sit opposite your partner.
At random intervals in the meal, you casually move an item on the table to another place. This can be as mundane as sliding the salt along or bizarre as turning your partner's wine glass upside down.
You take it in turns, and add comments such as, 'No stacking please' or 'Nope, I touched that 2 goes ago'. Not too loudly so as to make it obvious, but just loud enough that other people who are listening might be able to hear.
Of course there are no rules, but the small glow of satisfaction is gained by confusing those to the left and right of you, and keeping you both amused (for a short amount of time) while everyone else is still bored.Jedi excuse (idea)http://everything2.com/user/antonylewis/writeups/Jedi+excuseantonylewishttp://everything2.com/user/antonylewis2001-05-23T15:22:06Z2001-05-23T15:22:06ZThis excuse is based on playing with the subconscious. I use this with teachers at school with fairly good effect.

"You're 4 minutes late."

"Sorry Sir, I left the oven on"
Now at 8:55 in the morning, there's no logical reason for any oven to be left on. The boss/teacher will go inside, with the visual indication of his eyes looking up and to the side. This is your cue.

"Don't punish me, I'll sit down and won't be late again."
Now his/her subconscious which has been trying to catch onto some form of logic will grasp your statement and will agree to it, no matter what the teacher wants. There is nothing else for it to do. It must happen.

"Sit down and don't be late again"
A race consists of 2 teams of 3 boats each, and the aim is for your team to come in higher places in the opposition. Add the scores (First place=1, Last place=6) and the team with the lowest score wins.

The fun of the racing comes from knowledge of sailing rules. You manoeuvre your boat so that it slows the opposition boat allowing your team mate to overtake you both, thus gaining a position. Therefore it is possible on any leg for a losing team to convert to a winning team. This can happen many times on any leg.

The excitement comes from knowing the rules you can use, and using 'em to kill the other team before they kill you. Communication between team members is essential - "Take them out, I'm coming!", as is knowing what is happenning all the time. Does wonders for your driving as well.

Taking part in this sport builds teamwork, communication, and personal confidence. Size matters not, only skill

…Iridescent (thing)http://everything2.com/user/antonylewis/writeups/Iridescentantonylewishttp://everything2.com/user/antonylewis2001-05-22T19:14:17Z2001-05-22T19:14:17Z
Actually, iridescence the effect of a coloured object that changes colour when tilted. Some butterflies display this property for use in attracting others when courting.
Iridescence is caused by the structure of the molecules on the surface of the object and is not caused by dyes.
The surface is created with layers of molecules, and in each layer, there is some transmission and some reflection of light. With enough layers, near 100% reflection of sunlight can be managed at certain wavelengths.
When the object is tilted, or the light is shone at an angle, the distance between the layers is then increased, so a different wavelength of colour is reflected. The new colour will always be of a longer wavelength.
