Willow Creek is a small, unincorporated town of several hundred people in Humboldt County, California, located near the Trinity River. While most of the settlements of Humboldt County are on, or very close to the water, Willow Creek lies in the mountains, on the highway that leads from Arcata to Redding. Willow Creek is only 24 linear miles from Arcata, but over the winding mountain road to reach there, it is 40 miles away. Due to its position away from the ocean, it also has much hotter and colder weather than the mild oceanic weather of much of the county.

Willow Creek itself is small, having a grocery store, hardware store, library, post office, several gas stations, a motel, some restaurant, and a museum of Bigfoot, who has been sighted in the area. The main industries are tourism, and supplying people in the cannabis industry, which flourishes in the nearby hills. Despite being a small town in an isolated location, the presence of tourists and cannabis workers has made the small outpost seem much more cosmopolitan, at least the few times I have passed through.
