You close your eyes not in pain

But in confusion. There are two ideas in your head,

Opposed utterly. They fight like wolves,

Snarling, scratching, swirling around each other,

 

And then you hear it –

That sound –

Clink,

Clink,

Clink,

The sound of coins

Being dropped before you,

One by one by one.

 

The wolves subside.

If there is coin to be clutched,

Grasped, grabbed at, if there is wealth

In the offering, wealth on condition,

Wealth that may not be offered forever

 

Then you ignore the wolves

Because, after all,

Nothing matters

But those coins --
