A parenthetical phrase is a section of a sentence which
digresses from the
topic at hand. The idea is that the person using the parenthetical phrase adds
insight to the discussion. Although, and this
may be good or bad, it usually doesn't add
insight.
A decent example (in non-sentence form) are the soft links at the bottom of each node on E2.
