A (supposedly) children's book by Dr. Seuss.

It's a parody of the cold war, about two nations who go to war over which side you should butter your toast on, top or bottom. It's told from the point of view of one of the butter-side-up nation's top generals, who is telling his grandson of the story of how the war started and the progressively more destructive weapons they invented, just before he tells the boy to go in to hiding as he and the enemy square off with the ultimate, nuclear-esque weapon. Brilliant stuff.
