Latin for abuse does not take away use.

That is to say, just because something can be (or is) abused does not mean it should be banned, destroyed, denied. (That is abused while there also is prefectly legitimate use for it.)

This is an important legal principle, among others. For example, it would not be correct to ban the Internet because it is possible to use for the dissemination of undesirable information.

The same principle applies to the development of new technology that can be abused. Leonardo da Vinci is said to have invented the submarine and then destroyed the blueprints because he was afraid it would be used for military purposes. Indeed, after it was reinvented in the 20th Century, it was used for military purposes, but it also allowed us to study the ocean in ways impossible before.
