Twilight: love it or hate it, I think you must at least acknowledge the absurdity of it. Some lines and phrases that have been written together to make that series of novels are simply laughable, and while I could create a list of what I think is silly and what is not, that would mean I have to read it again, and it would encourage people to hate what they haven't tried. I tried Twilight, and I didn't enjoy it. Other people tried it and rather liked it. Far be it from me to tell you want to love or hate, but this section here I think you should at least laugh at.
There is a short speech in Twilight when Belle questions Edward on his age. He, being a vampire, of course doesn't age, which could cause some problematic differences in maturity, but these issues apparently do not arise anywhere in the novels. Edward was apparently seventeen when he was turned into a vampire, approximately 100 years ago. This has caused some funny moments when I find out someone is seventeen. A friend turned seventeen just recently, so I and a friend were discussing birthdays and ages. I asked him how old he was and we instantly fell into acting.
"How old are you?" Her voice is slightly breathless.
"Seventeen." His voice is musky, deep, and washed out, his cheeks slightly puckered and he looks into her eyes as though he wants to devour her right there and then. There is a long pause.
"How long have you been seventeen?"
"A while."
We laughed at the stupidity of the whole situation. We repeat the last phrase again. "How long was that again?" We talk to each other as though we are barely holding back the extreme lust we have for the other, and then we fall into fits of laughter. Love or hate, Twilight should make you grin.
