Night thoughts of an adopted shelter cat...

I see the sleepdogs every night
When I shut my eyes they're there,
Their panting breath and huge teeth
Their red tongues lolling hungrily.
I see the sleepdogs every night.

They live in the White Bright Place of pain
Where I have gone, and gone again,
where there is no ground but net
The SleepDogs are there

I see her sleeping in her den
Snoring, rolling, twitching then
And I wonder what to do
Does she see the Sleepdogs too?

And so I must lie and purr,
And heal the anguish
That is hers. What's mine is mine,
and each to each
Have we together, lacking speech.
