Sorites Paradox has a fundamental
flaw, it
assumes that
intersection of
vague predicates with their seemingly
opposite vague predicate is the
empty set. The very nature of the predicate being vague means it must be quantified. Here are some famous opposites that coexist in their
interim state:
- Bald and having hair.
- Night and Day.
- Few and Many.
Most bald men have hair on their head, yet we still label them bald. Day transitions to night thru twilight and back to day thru dawn. When graphed on a Venn Diagram the sets that form the vague predicates are only independent of each other when the quantity is zero! So, in a sense, there are no non-bald men, just almost not bald men.
