The option to "get out of" or to not participate in something. Usually used in situtations where an individual would like a company to stop doing something that the individual never gave the company permission to do in the first place.

Company PR representatives would say something like, "We give people the choice to opt-out of our severe beating about the head and neck service, so there is nothing wrong with providing this service to those who do not ask us not to provide it."
