Many people have tried to smoke salvia, but few have truly smoked salvia. If you do not leave this dimension or turn into an inanimate object, you did not properly smoke salvia.
How do you properly smoke salvia? Well, first of all I recommend buying salvia that has been fortified with extract from other salvia plants. Such salvia will typically be sold as salvia 10x, 20x, or even 50x. Those numbers are intended to designate the strength of the salvia, so that salvia 10x is ten times stronger than plain salvia. Usually, 10x to 20x is sufficiently strong. Once, when I went to a store to buy salvia, I saw a box of 50x salvia. A worker who had smoked some of it had written "never again" on the box with sharpie in huge letters. Take that for what it's worth.
When you finally decide to smoke the salvia you purchased, you will want to use a clean glass pipe. Hold the lighter over the salvia the entire time you are inhaling, and try to hold the smoke in your lungs for as long as possible. Usually, I would manage to hold the smoke in my lungs for 30 to 45 seconds. It's very important that you make the effort to do that if you really want to experience salvia. If you only hold the smoke in for 10 to 20 seconds, you will not have the full experience. I can almost guarantee that. Also, make sure you have a friend to watch you while you trip. Some people will get up and walk around on salvia, completely and some might say blissfully unaware of their physical actions. I don't want to be responsible for you inadvertently walking out of a window.
Usually, after the second or third time you inhale, you will forget you were smoking salvia. You will forget who you are and where you are. Your ego will shatter almost instantaneously, like a piece of glass hitting the floor. At this point, anything can happen. I've traveled through time. I've been a chair. I've had my spiritual essence stretched across the entire circumference of the universe, pervading everything. I've been trapped in reflections of myself and my own energy, like a hall of mirrors constructed out of the shards of my ego. I've been told by elves that nothing is real. No trip lasted longer than 5 to 10 minutes, although it always felt like it had lasted a lot longer than that. Sometimes, when I came back, it took me another 10 to 20 minutes to reconstruct my ego and my ability to perceive normal reality. Once, I had to turn on a faucet to make sure that water would still come out.
No, I don't smoke salvia anymore. I'm afraid that I no longer have the confidence in myself that I would need to not have a bad trip. I'm too scared of my own shadow these days. Still, I'll never regret my experiences with salvia. It was definitely worth it. As Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." But Roosevelt would have never been able to handle salvia, so what does he know?
