New Jersey's
public transportation system. Created in
1982 out of the
remains of several
regional railroads and
bus lines. Now has about 8 train lines into
Newark,
New York City, or
Philadelphia and points between, and numerous
bus routes all over the
state.
NJ Transit has been rated one of the best public transit rail systems in the country. It's really nice to live someplace where you can actually take a train somewhere. It would be even better if there were more lines that were intrastate--for me to get to any place north or south of me I have to go through Newark. Luckily, they're looking into it.
NJ Transit connects with the PATH system, the Long Island Rail Road, the NYC Subway system, SEPTA, the Metro-North Commuter Railroad, and Amtrak. You can get almost anywhere on the eastern seaboard by train if you desire.
