The blue sky is lying

through its cloudless teeth,

laughing in sparkling gusts of snow

spontaneous whirling upwards like glitter

without the knowing of gravity

or sudden broken bits of rainbow,

beautiful but leaving no hope behind,

or a glass shattered into nothing

you could drink from.

Not even the sun melts this snow

in a state of emergency,

four cars in the driveway

untouched, looking like big white whales

beached and not breathing.

Morning, dark shadows mirror

the empty branches above,

all rather sinister

as if the world knows something

besides a winter storm

has come and gone in the night.
