Tenerife is the largest of the
Canary Islands,
covering over 2,000 square
kilometers with
its characteristic
triangular shape.
Along with
Gran Canaria and
Lanzarote,
it is one the Canaries' most popular
tourist destionations.
The island's most notable feature is Teide,
a volcanic mountain (or crater, rather),
whose peak (El Pico del Teide) reaches over 3,700 meters
high, making it the highest point in Spain.
The mountain range and its surrounding valleys
contribute to giving Tenerife's wildlife
and scenery
sharp contrasts and great variety.
As a result, the island has been nicknamed
"the island of eternal spring".
The capital of the island is Santa Cruz de Tenerife,
which has 220,000 inhabitants. The city is known
for its beautiful gardens, especially
the municipal park, Garcia Sanabria.
