teeth.
Disorder of the budding of the dental lamina, inherited as an autosomal dominant or X-linked trait. The tooth may resemble a tooth of the normal series (incisiform, caniform, or molariform) or it may be conical or tuberculate.
AKA: mesiodens, paraolar, distomolar, hyperdontia, polydontism, supplementary teeth.
It occurs more in the
permanent dentition and more frequently in the
maxilla. Most often, the treatment is removal of the extra tooth.
