It all started when Fallon and Mercedes met in gymnastics class back in 1996. Mercedes had just gotten a drumset and Fallon had a guitar, so they decided to play together. After a while, Mercedes' older sister, Morgan, wanted to join in. She brought vocals and another guitar to the group. They started off doing covers of Nirvana and Silverchair, etc. It was decided that a bass player was needed. A girl named Tanya was found, and Kittie was complete. They started writing their own stuff and playing local gigs in their Canadian home town. They released 2 demos,'Sex Iz Hell' and 'Kittie'. In the beginning of 1999 Kittie was signed to NG/Artemis records. Around September, Tanya left the band, but she was simply replaced by Talena. On January 11, 2000, the album 'Spit' was released. Kittie really took off after that, scoring tours with Slipknot, Sevendust, and Willhaven. Since the January release of 'Spit,' it has sold over 400,000 copies.
