Not mediated. The idea of an experience or sensation not felt through anything, but directly. Television, radio, movies, books, and the Internet are highly mediated, playing music or writing are somewhat less mediated, sex and playing in the mud are about as unmediated as you can get. (Remember that everything is mediated by the body, and often by the mind too.)
None of this is to say that media and mediation are inherently bad, only that they are not and should not be the totality of our experience, and that (especially when controlled by money) they often alienate us from our family, friends, and community. We must be aware of the effect of mediation and not let it ruin our lives.
