NJ subway,
PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson), which is partially underground and partially above:
The sudden, subterranean wind--
in a blink you've entered the tunnel,
its edges close enough to have molded your vessel.
Beyond the windows the blackness is your mind
shut down from effort, brightness having made you blind.
Fluorescent bars periodically dash
by as if to remind you of your speed; in a flash
the tunnel is gone and you have emerged
into daylight in a carved gulley surging
with electricity. Then, you are at the end.
