One of the primary ways to measure the magnetic field strength, the magnetic flux density is the amount of magnetic flux, Phi, per a given area, A. It is usually represented with the vector B, and measured in units of Tesla (T). There are several ways of calculating the magnetic flux density:
  • B = μH
  • B = Phi/A

Where μ is the permeability of the region, H is the magnetic field intensity, and A is the area that the flux Phi passes through. Note that this second equation must be used with some care, as it is really a (albeit common) special case of the more general equation:

Where s is the surface with the area A.
