An electronic system using logic; developed to solve problems where analog electronics would be inappropriate. A digital system represents all data electrically in the form of high and low voltages, and uses logic functions such as AND, OR, and NOT to process this data. There are generally two types of machines that one can build with a digital system: combinational logic networks and state machines. Advanced digital systems can be programmable, and at a certain level of sophistication, can be called a computer.
