Premiered at MacWorld New York in 2000, the multiprocessor G4's are the high end of Apple's business offering. Retailing for over $2000, they contain two G4 chips for use in their next generation operating system, Mac OS X. In their current OS (Mac OS 9.0.4), only certain applications can take advantage of this dual processor setup, mostly Adobe Photoshop through a special plugin. They have a few enhancements over regular G4s, but we really wont see the true SMP power until OS X gets shipped.

As of yesterday, Mac OS 9.1 is out of a lengthy beta cycle, and into the public hands. The finder has been MP enhanced, and it seems as if Apple has provided several updates that enable better use of the two processors. thanks go out to perdedor on this one
