Paul Young was born in Luton
, England in 1956. His musical career commenced at the age of 20 when he began playing bass guitar
for a variety of minor local acts. His singing talent
s were soon noticed and he played for a while with the Q-Tips
, producing some oddities such as "Toast" amongst others.
His first major chart hit came in 1983 with a cover version of Marvin Gaye's little-known Wherever I Lay My Hat, which Paul Young (now performing solo) gave a smooth, soulful sound. For the next couple of years he enjoyed regular UK chart success, and his first hit in the US came with Every Time You Go Away in 1985. In the same year he was a key participant in the Live Aid event.
Since the late 80s his output has been minimal although he was worked with a few other groups and artists.
