With 'Destroy!' Scott McCloud set out to create the most violently destructive comic book story possible, playing on all the old cliches from big superhero fights, and reducing them to glorious absurdity. Almost every recognisable landmark in Manhattan is smashed and trashed in creative ways. (McCloud provides a handy checklist of destruction at the end.)

Alan Moore dubbed it the first 90's comic. That said, the dialogue is far and above the quality in more commercially successful nineties comics such as those published by Image Comics.

The only dialogue in the majority of the comic is:

DESTROY!
DESTROY!
DESTROY!

Black and white, published by Eclipse in 1986 in an oversized format, it has never been reprinted.
