The Dinner Party of CuntsJudy Chicago’s 1970s work “The Dinner Party” was installed permanently to the Brooklyn Museum, New York, in 2007. “The Dinner Party” is an art piece made up of an enormous triangular dinner table, consisting of 48 feet on each side, with a place set for 39 famous women (both mythical and real) throughout history. At each place there is a representation of each of these women’s cunts. Each cunt is uniquely crafted to represent Judy Chicago’s impression of each of these women. Some resemble flowers or butterflies or brains or actual food, but all are definitely recognizable as what they are: cunts. It is a lovely table chock full of famous cunts, along with the life story and achievements of each woman written next to the representation of her cunt. The statement Judy Chicago made was that we should not overlook the great women in history and to bring them recognition. Or, in her own words (lifted by me straight from Wikipedia): "The Dinner Party was meant to end the ongoing cycle of omission in which women were written out of the historical record."
