In Windows 2000, this icon opens up a list of computers in the same workgroup as your own. Identical in functionality to the Network Neighborhood icon found in Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0, but it is located inside the My Network Places folder.

Of course, if you're in a network where workgroups aren't defined by physical location, a "computer near you" could be miles away. It is not a good idea to haphazardly print to a printer merely because Windows suggests that it is near you.
