Like me, you probably heard Bobby Whitlock in
Derek and the Dominos. I first noticed him on the
In Concert album. Hard not to, I guess. Not to be confused with the
Bobby Whitlock who played with the likes of
Stan Getz and
Chet Baker.
He started his working life as a Stax session musician but was soon recruited Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett's band, where he, Clapton and the other members of Derek and the Dominos met. Other "major" artists he worked with include George Harrison and The Rolling Stones (uncredited on Exile on Main Street - my favourite Stone's album).
His most recent album was released in 1999 after over 20 years with very few recording credits to his name.
