An epic march by the communist forces led by Mao Tse-Tung. In 1934, the Red Army was about to be exterminated by the Kuomintang army of Chiang Kai-Shek. The Red Army marched 6,000 miles across China, taking heavy losses but ultimately surviving to lead the communist revolution.

China's largest rocket booster is named the Long March in honour of the above. The Long March II F, carrying the unmanned Shenzhou IV capsule, lifted off on December 30, 2002.
