The 729-foot, 75-foot wide freighter S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald was the largest ship of its time to ply the Great Lakes. She sank with all hands in a terrible November storm in 1975 while carrying iron ore. Subject of Gordon Lightfoot's famous song The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
