Αμυχος
A giant, a son of Poseidon and king of the Berbryces in Bithynia. Savage by nature, he invented the sports of boxing and fighting with the cestus. He used to attack strangers who landed on the Bithynian coast and would put them to death with a single blow of his fist. When the Argonauts landed in his country Amycus met them and challenged them to fight. Pollux took up the challenge and the fight began. Despite his huge height and brute strength, Amycus was defeated by the skill and suppleness of Pollux. Each of the contestants had staked his own body on the outcome and Amycus, had he been the victor, would have killed his opponent, but having beaten him Pollux was satisfied with making the giant promise that he would refrain from harming strangers in the future.
