Father of Ebisu, Daikoku is the Japanese god of wealth, patron of farmers and protector of the soil. Also known as the "Great Black One" he is known for granting mortal's wishes. Usually portrayed as a buddha-like fat, jolly merchant type character, sitting on two bags of rice with a bag of jewels over his shoulder.

He wears a golden sun-disk amulet and carries a magical mallet which has the power to fulfill wishes. His familiar is the rat and he is also considered a friend to children.

His mallet has both male and female symbols engraved on it and he is sometimes portrayed as a goddess, Yasha. He is also one of the Shichi Fukujin.
