A traditional drink in Peru and South American which is basically a tea made with the leaves of the Coca plant. The Coca plant is the plant used to produce cocaine, however matte de coca contains only .4% of the cocanine, the active alkaloid which gives cocaine it's mind altering power. The leaves themselves contain a larger percentage, which requires much processing to produce actual pure cocaine. While this amount is not enough to cause drug-like effects or addiction, it is still banned in the United States. It is also caffine free, although it does act as a mild stimulant similar to tea or coffee.
