The craziest thing about this story is how Christians use it to justify bigotry towards homosexuality. To those people, I say "go back and re-read the freakin' passage, damnit!!!" It's not even about homosexuality, it's about kindness to foreigners (or strangers, depending on how broadly you look at it). And no, this is not some crackpot theory, I've heard several "biblical scholars" say the exact same thing...
Side note: in the exact same book of the bible, in a later chapter, God reminds the Israelites "thou shalt be kind to foreigners, because remember that you were once foreigners in Egypt".
