Or kami no itte, the hand of god is said to be the perfection in the art of playing Go. It means achieving the ultimate ability, the ultimate level of perfection in Go and is the goal of most professional Go players. However, as the Hand of God is nothing short of absolute perfektion, it has like all ideals never been achieved, but something to always strive for. Perhaps of all historic Go players, Honinbo Shusaku came closest to achieving kami no itte.

In the japanese manga series Hikaru no Go, Akira Touya thinks he sees the hand of god in Hikaru Shindou, while he is in fact playing Sai Fujiwara, the ancient ghost that co-inhabits Hikaru. But Sai is far from perfekt himself, and is striving towards that ultimate goal himself.
