I dreamt of her, and waking was like death;
I heard her spoken of, and wished her near;
I saw her scared, and knew as mine her fear;
And in the wind, I felt her sultry breath.
They told me: when I turned from her, she wept;
Were I to do her ill, her breath would stop;
That with a simple kiss, facades would drop
And out would spill a life of secrets kept.

After tiresome waiting, I gave in,
And planted on her trembling lips and thin
A kiss that set my weary heart afire.
But no facades, just endless tears, she shed,
Each time we met thereafter. Now I dread
Those dreams of her that beckon as I tire...
