The first single by the kitsch-pop producer, The Real Tuesday Weld's alter ego, Stephen Coates, this song is rife with vintage-sounding synths and organs, with a strong Hip-Hop breakbeat driving it forward, giving it a danceable, yet lounge-like feel.

The lyrics are about falling in love, and contain all manners of wordplay and the occasional double entendre. They're sung by Lloyd Cole, himself an accomplished artist. His voice sounds almost like a whisper, and really lends a warmth and intensity to the song.

(French Speaking)

Well, I don't believe in love Until I'm in love And I don't know if it's a miracle Or just chemicals in us

And though it's written in the stars You're from Venus I'm from Mars And, now it's the pop-psychology, not love That keeps us worlds apart.

L'amour et la morte Encore (et) encore L'amour et la morte More and more

Well, I know that I'm confused Got a heart like an exit wound But the fact one day it all might break Is what makes it all seem true

So there ain't no need for us, For lawyers and priests because If ya say you love me until I die Then maybe that's enough

L'amour et la morte Encore (et) encore L'amour et la morte More and more

L'amour et la morte

(French Speaking)

No, I don't believe in love Until I'm in love And I don't know if it's a miracle Or just a chemical in us

L'amour et la morte Encore (et) encore L'amour et la morte More and more

L'amour et la morte Encore (et) encore L'amour et la morte More and more

Well I don't believe in love Until... I'm in love

IIRC, "l'amour et le morte" refers to the French phrase "la petite morte", or a sexual climax. Sort of lends a different meaning to the song...
