Cop can also mean 'to steal', 'to win' ("cop second place"), or 'to understand' ("I don't cop you"). Cop appears in an unusual number of English idioms in both America and the UK.

Among the many English idioms which include 'cop' are:

'Cop a feel' (sneaking a grope at a taboo part of a {usually} girl's body)
'Cop a plea' (to plead guilty to a lesser charge, resulting in a lighter punishment).
To 'cop it' is 'to die'.
To 'cop out' is to turn coward, or in some cases to be arrested.
A 'cop shop' is a police station.
To 'cop some Zs' is to get some sleep.
'A fair cop' is a deserved punishment, or a just, although unwanted, action against a person.
